The Bondi Livesaver is another Sydney pub where Kiwi bands played in the 70s so it is great to see that a book has been written about this venue. As long as musician/writer Craig Griffiths secures funding for printing, this book should be out early December. He hopes to raise funds via a Kickstart progamme.
The Livesaver was in Bondi Junction and has been described as the 70s rock & roll HQ; an HQ that met a sad end in 1980 when the whole block was flattened to make way for a shopping centre.
Kiwi bands like the La De Da’s and Dragon played at the Lifesaver. Mick Leyton was in the house band and Marc Hunter did some time there as a DJ. Contributors to the book include: Kevin Borich, Todd Hunter, Kerry Jacobson (ex-Dragon), Ray Goodwin (ex-Dragon) and Mick Leyton. Craig has used stories from musicians who played at the old pub and has included lots of photos, posters and flyers.
