Teddy Toi death at 82 …

Vince Maloney, Johnny Dick, Doug Parkinson & Teddy

Bass player Teddy died last week. He had first become known to Kiwis in 1964 when he joined Max Merritt and the Meteors. Over the next decade he often played alongside drummer Johnny Dick & it was with Max and the Meteors that they first worked together.

He came to Australia with this band but before too long he & Johnny had been poached by Billy Thorpe for a new line-up of the Aztecs. Over his time in Oz, Teddy worked with several high-profile bands: Wild Cherries, Doug Parkinson Life Organisation, a backing band who became the All Stars …

In the UK in late 60s he was one of the four who went into the band Fanny Adams. Once again, Johnny Dick was the drummer. In the mid-70s in Oz he spent more time with Billy Thorpe when his band was just a trio. He then worked with drummer Gil Mathews, who had also played in the Aztecs. This was just before Billy moved to the States.
