Sunday quiz: Split Enz

My favourite local barista is a Kiwi lad in his early 20s. He admits he doesn’t know much about music, unlike cricket or rugby that he knows lots about. The cafe where he works is one where I spend lots of time reading (mostly about music), drafting posts for this blog, writing the occasional book review …

One day recently a new staff member asked me what I was reading. It was Seven Voices by Mike Chunn. I explained his relationship to Split Enz (who she had never heard of) & told her she needed to do some homework. She went straight across to ask our rugby fan who didn’t let the side down completely. But the homework for the three staff (all in their early 20s) who at that time worked Sunday afternoons turned into a quiz. After they had done the first quiz (about Split Enz) one of them said she’d enjoyed it & they would have another one next Sunday. I complied.

Here’s the Split Enz quiz. The answers will be in the next posting.

1.Who were the brothers in Split Enz (one is an original member; the other joined a few years later)?

2.Which city were these brothers from?

3.Where did the band form?

4.What was the name the band first used?

5.What TV talent quest did they enter in 1973?

6.When did they change their name to Split Enz?

7.Describe their stage clothes in the 1975 – 1976 era.

8.What was the name of their first album?

9.What happened to this album when they went to London in 1976?

10.Which year did the younger brother join the band?
