Yah!!I have now seen 5-piece country-rock band Stars in a full performance. Previously all I had seen was a 30-minute taster at Basement Discs the day, almost a year ago, when they launched Boundary Rider, which very soon will not be their newest CD.
MAL EASTICK; MICK PEALING; GLYN DOWDING (OBSCURED); ROGER MCLACHLAN & NICK CHARLES
Stars formed in Adelaide in the 70s. Andy Durant had been in the band early & had written lots of songs for them; many of which were played at this show. Andy died young. Stars do him proud by keeping his songs alive as he did them proud by writing them.
Four original members Mal Eastick (g); Roger McLachlan (b); Glyn Dowding (d) and frontman, vocalist, guitarist Mick Pealing still play in Stars along with Nick Charles (g).
Collectively they are tight, professional, stand-out musicians who really deliver. On Friday night they played crowd favourites like Time Stands Still and Red Neck Boogie and newer songs; the most memorable of which was the cab-driver song Driving Hungry.
Stars are enormously popular and are due to perform again soon; at the Kingston Town Hall on May 31st.
