New CD: ‘I Can Dream’ Max Merritt 2020

Wow: a posthumous CD … In the last couple of weeks the CD I Can Dream covering songs Max recorded over the years 2002 – 2020 was released by Fanfare Records giving us Max, gravelly as he should be, with a rich contemporary backing.

Some of the recording & much of the mixing was done by Max’s mate Jimbo Barton, a man with a long history of engineering & mixing who worked with Kiwi legends Split Enz & who has worked with international greats including Eric Clapton & Metallica …

Other musicians well known in Australia also appear. The track Sunbury is a co-write with Colin Hay who plays guitar & provides bvs on this track. In fact two of the songs on this CD were recorded at his studio. Candy Row, Tempted & I Don’t Want to Lose You have Jimmie Sloggett on sax. (And yes, you may have read in many places that Jimmie is a Kiwi. He’s not. He just lived in NZ for a long time.)

If you’d been good this year maybe Santa gave you this CD. If not & until you get out to buy it, YouTube has a promotional clip of the title track that includes a montage of images of Max and the Meteors over the years.
