It has been a while since I have seen Mike in action. On Sunday Spectrum and Madder Lake were in a show that had Phil Manning as opener. At that show, the integration between Spectrum and Madder Lake was amazing. Spectrum’s drummer Robbo Robertson played with both bands (as substitute with the Madders as their drummer has medical time-out), guitarist Brenden Mason plays in both bands anyway, Daryl Roberts was with Madder Lake as second keyboard for the last part of their segment & Mike had been out playing harmonica on the Madder Lake hit ‘Badlands’. So by the time Spectrum began their set, the only band member we hadn’t seen was bass player Broc O’Connor.
Spectrum was firing, delivering lots of songs we know well; ‘Launching Place’, ‘Red Hot Momma’, ‘Lottery, ‘New Pair of Socks’, ………. Mike looked sprightly, dancing like a young bloke. Between songs he told a story of an early gig where he had forgotten his harmonicas. Someone found one he could use but as he said, harmonicas are very personal ……….
The show kept to time so we knew once we heard about the naughty ‘Esmeralda’ the end of the show was approaching. What a great three hours of music.
