Mike and Broc O’Connor (from the current Spectrum line-up) performed at Basement Discs Thursday December 7 at lunchtime as part of the shop’s 12 days of Christmas acoustic sessions. The tiny performance area in the store is great and listening to Mike with just two guitars as backing allowed the audience to focus on the stunning strength and range of his voice. He nodded to Sir Paul, Etta James and Otis Redding and covered one song from each.

Just prior to singing Sitting on the Dock of the Bay he reminded us he had in his youth been a chorister in the Christchurch Cathedral but yesterday he sounded nothing like that teenager.
