Live streaming of gigs; the issues …

In the last 18 months or so in the household we have watched a series of gigs live streamed. The first one; from Memo in St Kilda streamed well, with only one moment of buffering as I recall. The next few didn’t have such good streaming qualities and buffered often. Then the last one we tried to watch from a few minutes in had constant problems loading. We gave up with that one & watched something on Netflix.

Tuesday night was the first time I have attempted to watch a live streamed gig from my laptop. This was a MBAS gig lived streamed from the MBAS Facebook site of a show by John Williams’ band Doubleshot of Blues. OMG!! The buffering. I suspect I spent as much time looking at that pesky blue circle going round & round & round some more as I did watching the show. When there was live feed the sound was stunning but the picture quality varied. A lot of the time John, Robert & Connor were fuzzy.

That computer, with lots of grunt, was purchased especially so I could watch F1 on Kayo. I have had no problems watching races the afternoon after the race for the comparable 18 months. But then I am very careful to only watch in the afternoon.

So the post I was going to write here about Doubleshot has been high-jacked by issues … One of the things I did spend time looking at were the messages by people watching the show. All were encouraging & extremely positive & I did enjoy the irony of the band encore selection Stop Breaking Down.

I’ll close by saying that should I ever have the option of being at a live gig where there is a tiny crowd (cos of THE RESTRICTIONS) but watching live or live streaming from home I will be at the venue watching live!
