Kevin Borich at the Satellite Lounge March 17, 2018

I hadn’t seen Kevin play live for some time. And I hadn’t seen any shows at the Satellite Lounge in this new location at the Village Green Hotel; probably due to the fact that the Satellite has only been operating in its new home for a few weeks.

In the 17 months since I last saw Kevin play live, he has turned 70. He hasn’t let up at all. He was on fire; making his guitars talk as his hands worked their magic. He has a new band: Jon Carson (drums) & Chris Gilbert (bass). These two are sensational. Kevin Borich Express (KBE) shows have an acoustic first set with an electric second set. The three of them played newer songs in the first set & as the energy built in the second set, the audience became even more enthusiastic. Kevin clearly enjoyed the crowd response when the floor filled with dancers.

They played the favourites that we have come to expect including two from the late La De Da’s catalogue: Gonna See My Baby Tonight (1971) & The Place (1973) & from the early KBE days, they played I’m Going Somewhere (1976), Going Downtown (1977) plus newer favourites like She Can’t Help It & Fight On.

Post-show he posed & smiled a squillion times to have his photo taken with purchasers of his large collection of merchandise. Just a few hours later the trio were due to play an afternoon show at Musicland in Melbourne’s industrial north. But after the Saturday night show, Kevin left people asking when he’d be back again …
