Last night DoubleShot of Blues was guest band at the MBAS jam night at the Flemington Bowls Club. Bliss. I haven’t seen them play live since January 2021 in one of those rare moments between lockdowns. Though, they did play at a very capped event that was live streamed in June last year.
When they played in January 2021 the new line up of the trio (John & bassist Connor O’Neill plus drummer Rob Dillion) had been together a mere 2 weeks. Last night Rob was absent due to a commitment in FNQ (Townsville to be precise) so Peter Hodges deputised on the drummer’s stool. It was a cold night with a ‘feels like’ temperature well below the number showing on the car’s dash board, yet there were lots of people assembled to listen. And cheer.
‘Little Red Rooster’ joined the repertoire which included favourites like ‘Rock Me Baby’, ‘Born to be a Bluesman’, ‘Stop Breaking Down’ & an extended version of ‘Highway 31’. I wanted to hear more but as always John & the trio delivered a sterling performance.
