Gigs in Melbourne by Kiwi musicians

Double Shot of Blues featuring John Williams (left)

Melbourne is nicely supplied with shows by Kiwi-born musicians. In the last few months I have seen shows by Double Shot of Blues (the John Williams band); Kevin Borich; Brent Parlane; Field, See & Mason; Spectrum-Ariel.

John Williams was the lead guitarist with Larry’s Rebels, then later the Rebels. Glyn Mason was in the Roadrunners and Bitter End in Wellington in the mid-60s then Jigsaw in Auckland before becoming the vocalist with the Rebels in the spot where Larry Morris had been when the band was Larry’s Rebels. Glyn has worked with a number of bands in Australia including Chain; Ariel; plus Stockley, See & Mason. He now works with Sam See in the Pardonners and with Sam plus Lindsay Field in Field, See & Mason. Lindsay Field was in Original Sin.

My next post will feature Mike Rudd who came to Australia late 1966 with Chants R&B and has had a long history in music here, most notably with his band Spectrum.
