Field, See & Mason at the Oak Dec 22, 2019

This event, billed as their Christmas Spectacular really was a spectacular gig by Lindsay Field, Sam See & Glyn Mason. The pub (the Royal Oak in North Fitzroy) was full to bursting with people wanting to hear the three of them deliver; to hear their voices & their stunning harmonies. Early they responded to a request for the original Its Only Love that Glyn wrote back in the days he was with Ariel; a song that I always enjoy hearing.

The second set included their versions of Aussie classics; many from their CD Down Under the Covers. Sam teased the audience as they launched into Little Ray From Sunshine – a song he said he wrote back in 1962 that had been stolen. Later it transpired that they had sung this on the last cruise where Brian Cadd was in their audience. He went along with the joke & a small number of dollars were seen to change hands for the supposed ‘theft’.

I suspect the highlight of the show for many was Lindsay singing Hallelujah.

The afternoon wound up with a compilation of the songs we expect to hear as they bring the show to a close like Highway to Hell, Morningtown Ride then moved into a couple of Christmas carols including Come All Ye Faithful. They do have a faithful group of fans who attend all their shows who were at the Oak that day & will be there the next time the three perform together.
