Dave Hogan (& the all the Heinous Hounds) in the basement at the Espy April 28, 2019

It was great to see this band again a few weeks after their regular gig at the old Cherry Bar ceased when the bar closed at that location. The basement at the Espy is a great space; small but funky where it is amusing to be able to look up & see trams passing by on their way to & from St Kilda.

During the first set the crowd grew and the room filled. Because this space is small the crowd is much closer to the band & there’s not much room for dancing. But various in the crowd were inventive & used what little space there was. Some moved tables back to make dancing room available in front of the band.

The Hounds really rocked on Sunday. Steve Lucas is well again & as testament to that he & bass player Jerome Smith stretched themselves in a duo with Bring It On Home to Me. And Dave – he didn’t disappoint and gave the audience favourites like Don’t Lie to Me C’Est La Vie (aka Never Can Tell).
