Bill Cate was born in 1940. He and Boyd Robertson began recording in 1960 & they sang together professionally until 1989. In their early days in NZ they were hugely popular & their song Cathy’s Clown attained the No.1 spot on the Lever Hit Parade. It was their harmonies that set them apart from other well known acts in those days.
Australia beckoned. Chulu Chululu got them some chart action in Australia in June 1964 & it was 1965 when they made Australia their permanent base. Their song Santa Never Made It To Darwin (written by Bill) about the cyclone that devastated that city on Christmas Eve 1974 was their biggest Australian hit. It was released to raise funds for that city.
Bill died late November aged 80.
