Earlier this week the death of Willie Hona was announced in New Zealand. He is best known for his time with the Herbs. But prior to that, one of the groups he was in was the Whangarei group The Face, with Mark Williams who these days is seen so often in Dragon as they tour the country. From memory it was Mark who described Willie as their hot-shot guitarist.
The Herbs formed in 1983 & were considered to be a Pacific reggae band (who also had Charlie Tumahai in their ranks). They spent some time in Oz in the late 80s & Willie moved to Oz & lived in Queensland from the mid-90s.
He worked as a musician all his adult life & was inducted (alongside the others from Herbs) into the NZ Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
