We’re been waiting a while for this album but it has been well worth the wait. Titled 470 Northern Highway Blues it is an impressive collection of 12 songs with strong blues themes; floods, no food, no money, cold, wet, hungry ……….
There are 4 original songs & 8 re-worked favourites. The original tracks are the title track (‘470 Northern Highway Blues’), ‘Slowtrain’, ‘Boogie Creek’ & ‘Born to Be a Bluesman’. I especially like John’s new original ‘Slowtrain’. Firmly set in Australia, it has the train leaving Sydney. And I have always liked ‘Born to Be a Bluesman – a song John has often played at gigs.
The standout track for me, the one that caught my attention most is this version of ‘Blues Jeans Blues’ ….. It was the harmonica that pulled me up short. For those of you music aficionados still wondering, that’s Mike Rudd blowing away, brilliantly complementing John’s music.
