John Williams gigs again …

I went to a gig this week. After almost a year … The last one I went to was March 8th, 2020. I was due to go to two the following weekend but one was cancelled & we had concerns about the small venue – crowded space issue with the other.

DoubleShot of Blues, the John Williams band played at the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society (MBAS) New Year Big Blues Gala – a sold-out event to celebrate the re-opening of the MBAS House of Blues. He was there alongside Melbourne blues heavyweights Geoff Achison & Phil Manning (each performing solo) & hard-hitter Kelly Auty (& her regular pianist Boris Conley).

Rob (d), John & Connor (b)

DoubleShot closed the evening with two new players in the line-up: Connor O’Neill (b) & Robert (Rob) Dillion (d) who had both been in the Melbourne band Dream Boogie. These two delivered great performances after just two practice sessions with John. Together they played favourites like Rock Me Baby, Born to be a Bluesman plus the all-time favourite of mine Fool For Your Stockings. And to finish the evening there was a bit of a jam with DoubleShot, Geoff & Kelly, ending with John & Geoff engaged in a moment of guitar duelling.

It was a great night & just lovely to be at a live gig again.
