It is now almost 15 years that this line-up of Dragon (Todd Hunter; Mark Williams: Bruce Reid and Pete Drummond) have been together, after Todd re-built the band again. At Memo they delivered 2 sets; mostly old favourites plus a few songs not in the Dragon songbook like Heading in the Right Direction (written by Mark Punch & made known by Renee Geyer) & Show No Mercy (the Mark Williams 1990 Top 10 hit from the days he was an Alberts recording artist).
TODD HUNTER
It was a high energy show from the first moment. Memo was set up differently on the night with more space at the front for dancing. And that space filled quickly & stayed full. Once again I was amazed at the numbers of young people there; people who would never have known Dragon songs & their hits from the mid-1970s or the 1980s cos they hadn’t been born!
At interview 3 years ago Mark described himself as a caretaker of the Dragon songbook. It is interesting watching him in his role of frontman with the current band. He works hard, singing, playing guitar, encouraging participation from the crowd. He likes to give and get back. He gave heaps. The crowd gave back.
MARK WILLIAMS
If you missed them Friday night they are back in Victoria as headliners on Sunday night at the Mordiallic Festival (Sunday March 1).
