It seemed like ages since I had last heard the Hounds (with Kiwi vocalist/harmonica player Dave). The afternoon began with band leader Steve Lucas greeting all with ‘Welcome back repeat offenders’ …. The spontaneity in this band is great. There is no set list. Each of the 4 vocalists just chooses songs on the day. Though for Matt Dwyer, his early choices were limited to instrumentals cos his microphone wasn’t working. But in the car shuffle after the first set, they shuffled mikes too so he got one that functioned then he could sing again as he usually does.

Dave, sounding appropriately gravelly, gave us some lesser known songs on Sunday kicking off with the old blues classic Baby, Scratch My Back & later giving us his version of the John Lee Hooker gem Big Legs, Tight Skirt …
The basement at the Espy filled quickly with an all-ages crowd as the Hounds began playing. Sunday afternoon is a great time to listen to music & the Hounds are not only an amalgam of very experienced musicians who deliver, but they are fun. We hope management at the Espy extend their bookings there.
