What a treat we got! John William’s band Double Shot of Blues are always great but on Tuesday night they had special guest Sean Johnson on keyboards. At those moments when the focus went to Sean’s playing, he had the crowd’s full attention. All applauded as the focus returned to the 4-piece band as they continued the song.

Sean had played in Double Shot in the early days. Even before that when John auditioned him that occasion was one of mild hilarity. The venue was Sean’s house around 10 one morning. His mother answered the door & let John in. Sean (aged 16) was still asleep but he woke up, rubbed the sleep from his eyes & still clad in his pyjamas began to demonstrate his keyboard skills for John. He got the spot in the band. But as is the way with all the very talented, he was snavelled up by another band. These days he plays full time with Palace of the King. However, on Tuesday he had a night off.
Double Shot have never disappointed me with their mix of re-worked blues classics & original songs. I suspect I can speak on behalf of all the audience on Tuesday night when i say I want to hear more music from them at times when Sean has a night off from his regular gigs.
