Field, See & Mason at the Yorkshire Stingo, Abbotsford: Sunday July 22, 2018

I hadn’t see the now ‘international stars’ Lindsay, Sam & Glyn perform since late April. This time they were in the beer garden at a different inner city Melbourne pub.

They delivered three great sets. Sam was at his rascally best, with Lindsay describing them at one point as ‘a cowboy & two New Zealanders’ … They played songs I hadn’t heard them do before like the Angels’ call-and-response-song Will I Ever See Your Face Again which elicited the same response it got when the Angels sang it: ‘No way. Get f’d. F-off.’

Tales of the cruise were related, like the way passengers were told that Whiter Shade of Pale was an Australian song. Well, it is the way those three sing it, which is somewhat different to the original by Procol Harum.

Late in the last set we were treated to snippets of several early 60s instrumentals & at one point it looked as though we might have seen some matching synchronised movements. The encore was Highway to Hell which morphed into the Flying Circus (who Sam was with many years ago) Hayride (recorded by Dedikation in NZ), back to Highway off to Morningtown Ride back to Highway which morphed into …

It was a great afternoon of music & fun from three first-class musicians.
